SharePoint Migration

SharePoint will be going out of support next summer. DTS are working to move us over to SharePoint online by Easter, which is part of the office 365 package and which will ultimately be more compatible with Windows 10. The new version will affect the look, feel and functionality of our SharePoint pages as they are.

There will be more information on the migration, including demo videos and examples of how the new SharePoint will look in the next blog.

Gender Pay Gap Report

Our 2018 gender pay gap report is now available to read following new legislation introduced last year, which requires employers of more than 250 people to publish annual statutory calculations showing how large the pay gap is between their male and female employees.

Overseen by the Government Equalities Office, there are four types of figures that have to be published annually on employers’ own websites and on a government website:

  • Gender pay gap (mean and median averages)
  • Gender bonus gap (mean and median averages)
  • Proportion of males and females receiving bonuses
  • Proportion of males and females in each quartile of the organisation’s pay structure

Fairness in pay is vital and the University is committed to ensuring there is equal pay for work of equal value for all its employees.

The main reason we have a gender pay gap in our 2018 report is because we have more female employees in our lower grades and more male employees in our higher grades. We are therefore looking at how we can ensure our workforce has an equal balance of male and female employees at each grade.

IT Self Service Portal

Digital Technology Services (DTS) is improving the way in which staff can request IT services. Next week, a new self-service request portal will give you the ability to search for, select and track a number of commonly required IT services. This portal will replace the rather dated IT request forms which some staff currently use. If you have any links saved to the current service request pages (or the individual forms) these will not work when the new portal becomes live.

From Tuesday 18 December 2018 you will be able to use our new portal by following the ‘My IT Requests’ links on the left of the DTS intranet pages. Or you can save this link in your favourites:https://itservicedesk.shu.ac.uk

The portal is easy to use and there will be guidance along with tips on how to get the best out of the service.

The introduction of the new self-service portal does not affect the way in which you can contact DTS for urgent IT support or to report IT issues. Please continue to use telephone x3333, email ithelp@shu.ac.uk or the chat service at go.shu.ac.uk/chat
