The Friday Feeling 13/04/2018

Happy Friday Everyone!

This month’s winning calendar competition photo for April was taken by Vanessa and it is Matlock Bath. I would hazard a guess that Matlock Bath isn’t so beautiful right now what with the recent weather, however, I hear that things may be on the turn! I won’t say too much though for fear of jinxing it!

FPLT attendance at team meetings

As part of the on-going your views action plan this was another area which came out of the survey as something that you would like to continue.

The plan for this year is to carry on as you did last year however, there are a few more added little things you might want to consider when FPLT attend.

Finance and Planning ATB

Ahead of the all team brief on 25/04 here is the agenda for the morning:

  1. Welcome, introduction and directorate news – Deborah
  2. CFPO Update – Deborah
  3. Mission and Vision Update – FPLT
  4. PSOM Update – Linda
  5. Continuous Improvement – Katie and Emma M
  6. Final thoughts and close – Deborah

Professional Services Operating Model

Libby Wilson has an update to the PSOM as the model has now moved into the implementation phase of the process.

Interviews for senior staff grade roles within Student and Academic Services and for the Faculty Strategic Business Partners are currently underway. The following appointments with effect from Monday 9th April have been made:

Group Director, Student and Academic Services – Nuala Devlin

Tour de Yorkshire – Finance and Planning Cycling Challenge

Registration is still open for those who want to take part in the Tour de Yorkshire Challenge, bag your slot here. Registration for the cycling challenge will close next Friday 20th April.

Lorna has been in touch with Jayne from Amy’s House (and possibly her mum) who will be making a guest appearance to raise some money and cheer our riders on.

Just a reminder: the running total for the charity this year is £662.27 so all the donations we can gather the better as we have quite a way to go to make it to our £2k target!

Mental Health Managers’ Workshop

Just a heads up if you get into the office on the 23rd April and think where are all the managers; fear not they will be in our quarterly managers’ workshop which will be based on mental health, facilitated by Laura Humphreys from HR&OD.

If you are interested in mental health and helping those who may suffer from the associated conditions to mental health you can book yourself onto one of our mental health first aid courses to become a mental health champion or be more mental health aware follow the link here for more information or book on via CORE.

Leanne Rowland is Raising money for Eilish Jennings Cancer Treatment Fund

Leanne will be having a bake and book sale on 18th April on Floor 1 Oneleven and also taking part in a 12 hour relay run with her husband between The Ball in Crookes and The Sportsman in Crosspool Saturday 5th May followed by a 5k family walk round Rother Valley with her children on Monday 7th May. Their just giving page is here.

Why is Leanne raising money for Eilish?

Eilish has been diagnosed with cancer and despite being offered chemotherapy treatment on the NHS her best chances of prolonging her life lie abroad in treatment that will cost around £300k for a year. What makes the stroy even more sad is Eilish has a young family who she would sadly be leaving behind if she does not get the treatment she needs, which is why her family, friends and even total strangers are doing all they can to raise as much money as possible, you can follow her story and donate on Facebook and also via the crowdfunding page too.

Congratulations to Louise Love!

Louise Love has now become the member of a collective of people who like to go and run marathons in their spare time, apparently for fun…

She has vowed that last weekends triumph will be her first and last marathon. However, I’ve heard that after you have had a taste of a marathon a 1/2 marathon after that just doesn’t cut it.

Congratulations to Louise, it’s a fantastic achievement and it’s all in aid of Weston Park a charity very close to her heart and which she has raised over £500 pounds for.

I’m sure this won’t be her last marathon!

Our Gender Pay Gap Report

New legislation means that from this year, for the first time, employers of more than 250 people have to publish statutory calculations every year showing how large the pay gap is between their male and female employees. We published our own gender pay gap report on Wednesday 28 March; you can read it in full by clicking here.

Changes to the VCO’s Office

We have a new Chancellor!

Lord Robert Winston is due to end his term as our Chancellor later this year.

Our new Chancellor will be Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, renowned barrister and human rights champion.

D&S Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Leach is also leaving the University in June after joining us in 2012. There will be an open competition recruitment round for the two vacant Pro Vice-Chancellor posts in D&S and ACES respectively, after the recent appointment of Professor Roger Eccleston to Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Global Engagement.

The AWRC Breaks Ground!
