Hello everyone welcome back to the Friday Feeling. This week we have our winning calendar competition photo from Melissa Cain, this is Lake Bled in Croatia.
Finance and Planning LICC
So as you would have seen in your email inbox over the last two weeks and also for those of you who were at the last all team brief we have reached that time where we are looking for nominations to be one of our next LICC staff reps. Some of the key dates to look for are below:
- 14th February our next LICC Meeting – why not come as a buddy? Contact Lorna, Sohil or Andrew to be added onto the invite.
- 23rd February nominations close
- 26th February voting opens
- 9th March voting closes
- 12th March Staff Reps Announced
Look out next week for an infographic from the staff reps on their experiences of being part of the LICC.
Personally, I have been part of the LICC now for the last 4 years, since I started at Hallam. I have been secretary to the committee and it brought me closer to the directorate as a new starter but gave me some breadth on some of the concerns we as staff hold close. Although, I have never been an acting part of the committee, I have seen the difference it makes to the directorate and how the role it takes is different to any of the other outlets we currently have for gathering and disseminating information. It should be utilised at every opportunity. Your staff reps are your voice, they enable an open and frank two way dialogue between you and the leadership team. Finally it’s a forum where big changes to the directorate go and are consulted on, you as a staff rep are empowered, you get to be key in all of those processes and your opinions are sought and valued. In a time of change across the university now is the time to jump at the chance to get involved.
Thinking of becoming a Mentor?
Have you ever had a mentor and think you can give back? Or are you thinking maybe you have some skills, knowledge and experience which you would like to share with someone who is keen to learn and find out more?
We have a mentor pool at SHU which currently is looking for more professional services staff as at present we only have 49 on the list.
Mentoring is a great opportunity, it enables staff to have somewhere outside their line management where they can discuss the challenges they face, their careers and development and to seek alternative views and perspectives from across the University – particularly critical throughout the transformation. It also serves to break down boundaries and build networks across directorates and between academics and professional services, as partnerships are formed between those who wouldn’t ordinarily work together. As leaders, it also allows us to stay in touch with the challenges staff are facing, and to provide broader leadership role outside our own teams.
To apply to become a mentor please follow the link to the mentoring website.
PSOM Update
