Here Lorna gives us an update on what a success the charity stall was last week!
Amy’s House Charity Stall
After weeks of me pestering you wonderful people for items to sell and help selling them, last Friday saw us hold our first major fundraiser for Amy’s House at the charity stall in Hallam Hall.
We went down with 2 trolleys full of your donations (minus the £70 of items I’d sold straight off the trolley under my guise as a poor-man’s Del-boy) and set up the stall with the help of Vanessa, Graz, Melissa and Lisa.
Our stall looked amazing and had many jealous glances from the other stall holders, and yet again led to us having to expand onto extra tables and spill onto the floor; then the fun began. First up were Jo Murfin and Fiona Herrick who like the experts from Bargain Hunt set off selling at pace, flogging tombola tickets like Charlie Bucket’s winning golden ticket.
Next up Patrick Egan got into the spirit by donning the regulation pink Amy’s House t-shirt; Karen Nettleship, Debbie Warr and Natalie McNeill arrived festooned in tinsel and the great pace of selling continued.
Jayne Hurditch and her mum Mariel arrived in support and to sell some homemade crafts, with the demonstration of the knitted scarves being a personal highlight of mine. The stall kicked up a notch by offering 3 for £2 on any cd, dvd or book and items were flying off, all I can say is I’m glad I brought in all those plastic bags. Emma Richardson and Nicola Green came during the lunchtime rush and starting bartering with customers like they were car booting pro’s, finally we had Donna McVeigh, Kate Bembridge and Debbie Beeley all lending a hand for the final few hours and clearing away.
The stall even managed to get a guest appearance from ACES very own Roger Eccleston who very kindly made a donation but declined the offer of a stick-on jewel tattoo kit.
With the help and support of everyone in the Directorate we managed to raise a massive £295 on the day which exceeded last year’s total. We also decided to donate the “new” stuff that was left directly to Amy’s House for them to use as raffle prizes and Christmas presents for the kids (saving them money) and finally we sold every last cd, dvd and book (and playstation) on Music magpie to raise an additional £24.
Finally, I completed my personal mission of having nothing to take back into the basement. We really cannot thank you all enough for your generosity, those who came to visit us on the day and volunteered.
