Good afternoon everyone! Wondering what the significance of this number is? Head over to Tom’s update!
What’s Coming up?
As we all know autumn is fully upon us; in the next blog I will be looking at what’s on, where to eat and anything ‘seasonal’ to get involved in my final series of the year. Deborah will have an update for us from the ULT away day, we will be launching our calendar competition, preparing for the volunteering days and the SBS Management Accounts team will let us know all about them in ‘meet the team’.
If you have any content you would like to contribute, any team / project news or maybe you are embarking on a personal journey / achievement for charity please send your info through to our ! Finance and Planning (Comms and Events) inbox.
Your Views Survey
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the survey so far, the response rate has been really good. If you haven’t already done so, please do fill in the survey, let us know what you think, you can find it here. The closing date is 13th October.
Finance Training for New Governors
We have some new governors this year and to get them ready for their term Simon and Deborah have been training them up. Their training covers accountability, the governors’ role and responsibility with regards to finance, our financial framework, an overview of the Income & Expenditure, University’s financial infrastructure, current financial issues, student numbers, and how to respond to financial issues.
Forum on the Fringe
You may, or may not, have seen that a new series of events called the ‘Forum on the Fringe’ is launching on 4 October with a session hosted by Kevin Kerrigan at the Students’ Union. These are informal events aiming to spark some innovative thinking and generate fresh ideas. An article has recently been in eView promoting them. University Leadership Forum members are invited but can bring a ‘plus one’, which can be any member of staff. There is more information on the dedicated blog here.
Volunteering
This week I went to meet with Lucy Wheeler at the students’ union to discuss our upcoming volunteering days at the Burngreave Foodbank on the 11th October and also the Abbeydale Picture House on the 18th October.
We have a space for the food Bank – they would ideally like 6 of us to attend. The beginning of the day will be packaging food up ready for the donations, however later on if you can stop behind they will be opening the food bank and you will be there to help out serving donations. If you would like to get involved please email the ! Finance and Planning (Comms and Events) inbox.
For those of you have volunteered to attend the days I will be in touch next week with your information packs and an overview of what you have let yourself in for,.
3 Peaks Challenge – Emma Smashed it!
What a lovely note to end our blog on this week. A massive congratulations to Emma and her husband Jonathon along with their team who completed the 3 peaks challenge last week! As you can see from the pictures below it looks like they had a great, but challenging time raising over 4k for the WH Smiths Group Charitable Trust. For any late donations please see their just giving page.
I heard Emma and Jonathon made it back home for the match on Sunday too which was some serious good going.
