Guest Post – Lucy Wheeler, Volunteering and Co-ordinator, Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union
Lucy is co-ordinating our upcoming volunteering days and here she tells us a bit more about each of our opportunities.
The Abbeydale Picture House is currently undergoing a renovation by CADs to make the space usable for up and coming performers and artists. The renovations began a few years ago and they have seen a drastic change with the lower floor now being usable for shows. Volunteers at the Abbeydale Picture House will have a very hands on DIY experience from scraping paint from walls, resealing the carpets, setting up the chairs and many more as the renovations continue on the upper floor. You will get a full tour of the building and a behind the scenes view at the workings of the old Abbeydale Picture House!
The Sheffield Foodbank provides short term and emergency food to families in the City council going through difficult times and crises. The foodbank opportunity is at The Royal Assembly in Firth Park and will be a perfect opportunity to give back to those in need. They receive regular donations and need a small group of dedicated volunteers to help organise and sort these donations in the warehouse.
