Summer Picnic

The social committee have kindly provided us with the low-down of what went on at the summer picnic last week

I think we can definitely say that the first ever SHU Finance and Planning summer picnic was a success 🙂

The weather stayed fine and dry, not too hot but I still somehow managed to get burnt 🙁

There were lots of us there from about 1pm until the last of us headed off about 5.30 when all the food and wine had all gone which I helped clear up.

There were 21 people from Finance who brought along with them a mixture of babies, children and  partners which more than doubled the numbers, along with 2 very well behaved an entertaining dogs. I want one of them on the girls rounders team with us next year…

Some people travelled quite some distance to join us which was very pleasing; Simon came on his tod from Leeds and Rachel dragged the family over from Grimsby, which must have been quite a treat for them.

We got things going with some very competitive rounders, girls v boys, which I would like to say was a draw..and leave it at that, but if we do it again I think the girls need some practice at catching and throwing…

Kathryn’s daughter Maddie very bravely took a few of us through a yoga session which was well needed after the strenuous rounders and I really enjoyed it.

We also had football, boules and Kate happily entertained herself with a bubble wand for a while too…see photos!

The quote of the day for me was someone who shall remain nameless saying they couldn’t partake in the yoga “for fear of farting” so obviously I didn’t try to persuade them otherwise.
picnic 2There was lots of and a great variety in food. You can certainly spot the people who do this regularly, with their picnic baskets, gingham table cloths and proper crockery and cutlery…so I sat with them with my supermarket bought packet of butties and sausage rolls.

There was also a few bottles of wine and the occasional gin and tonic too…very civilised

A fun afternoon was had by all and I’ve already had comments suggesting we make this an annual event, which I am more than happy to support.

Thanks to everyone who helped us organise this from the Social Committee. Huge thanks to the people who bought or lent us games equipment and helped organise things on the day, and a very big thank you to all those who turned up and make it such a success.

Here are a few photos taken during the day
