Sheffield:The Outdoor City – CLIMB

This week we are taking a look at the climbing opportunities available to us in our Outdoor City.

Next weekend is the annual Cliffhanger event, transforming the city centre into a playground for outdoor activity which keeps getting bigger and better each year. There will be live music, activities, demonstrations and refreshments from a range of food and drink outlets, and this year features the British Bouldering Championships.

Fiona Jones in Finance kindly agreed to share with us her story about her love of climbing…

climb 1

It is nearly 3 years ago I moved up to Sheffield – that is how much I love climbing! There was no other choice – Norfolk was just too flat for adventures and we fell in love with the Peak District and Sheffield.

Reasons I climb:

  • For adventures
  • To de-stress
  • Get stronger and fitter
  • The challenges and achievements
  • Communityclimb 3
  • Exploring the countryside
  • Wide variety of climbing on offer (indoor, outdoor, trad; boulder; sport; small crags; multi-pitch; Via-Ferrata; scrambling)

We are so lucky to live in the Peak district with its variety of rock (Grit in the Dark Peak and   Limestone in the White Peak). Climbing is a very inclusive sport – it doesn’t matter about your age; gender; fitness or strength. It’s such a fun sport and it’s a very friendly community. You do spend a lot of time chatting; drinking coffee and making friends. I met my other half through it 🙂
