Cybercrime

Lorna has been doing the rounds at your team meetings recently to teach us all about the risks of cybercrime, here is what she has to say…

 

So over the last 6 weeks 125 of you out there have attended the briefings on Cybercrime (people from Finance, Planning and HR). The sessions have been well received and as a result brought up some great conversations, increased people’s awareness (of the differing types of cybercrime that could affect us at SHU), and encouraged people to think before they click on the links.

We have had examples of people querying emails/attachment as a result of the briefings such as an email which was apparently sent from HR asking you to log in and amend your CORE account (this email as it turned out was a false alarm, but was dealt with appropriately as a result of the briefing). Another example was emails being received containing fake attachments – again by dropping this email into the spam folder this issue has been flagged to IT Help.bug One of the favourite aspects of the briefings was the website showing cyber-attacks as they happened, to look at this again click – http://map.norsecorp.com
