The Friday Feeling – 02/06/17

It is finally here…SUMMER! (yesterday we could have believed it, try and not look out of the window today)

The beginning of June also brings us a new photo, this month by Karen Hague in the Sales Ledger team in Finance.

Summer - 2 - Pom Poms

Don’t forget to be taking your pictures in landscape so you can submit them into the competition for next years Finance and Planning calendar.

Planning ‘New Office’ party

A couple of weeks ago Planning had a bit of a move around so that they could all be located on one floor.  All of Planning are now located on floor 1, and they are having a “welcome to the floor” informal get together on Thursday 8 June, 1200-1300.

The get together is open to the whole Directorate so if colleagues in Finance would like to pop down, have a nosey and say hello – please do!

Finance & Planning – Sheffield Round Walk

At the minute we are still planning on going ahead with the Round Walk on Sat 10 June. It is a relatively challenging 24km walk, and we will be setting off from Endcliffe Park.

Gary Allen (D&S Man Accts) has done the walk before and shared this…

Endcliffe Park (Hunters Bar) to Dore & Totley is just under 12km, which is a lot more reasonable. It is actually a really nice walk, as the first half is a slow and gentle climb past Forge Dam to Ringinglow. You then drop back down through a couple of woods to Abbeydale Road, so very gentle and easy walking. There is even a pub at Ringinglow for anyone who fancies it!

As I say, the second half is a bit steeper, particularly at the outset, but then you walk through a couple of woods to Graves Park and then through a few more parks/woods until you reach Meersbrook. The final section is not quite so pleasant, as you are mainly on roads and over the last hill to Hunters Bar, but by that time your mind should be fixed on getting to the end, and the big choice of pubs and restaurants in that area.

If you think you would like to come along, for all or part of it – please let either myself or Bernie know.

If we don’t get enough takers we will look at postponing and doing this later in the year.

Planning – Continuous Improvement course

Our Continuous Improvement team have just released the dates for Cohort 8 of their modular course.  They have been added to Core and it’s now open for booking. The dates for Cohort 8 are as follows:

Module 1: 19th September 2017
Module 2: 14th November 2017
Module 3: 16th January 2018
Module 4: 13th March 2018

I have been on the course myself, and it equips you with a variety of tailored tools that can be used on any project small or large – I can definitely recommend it.

If you have any questions about the training, or any other CI queries, please feel free to get in touch with them on x3772 or email continuousimprovement@shu.ac.uk

Finance – Systems change restriction period

Every year DTS implement a ‘change restrictions’ period on the systems which are corporately managed by them. This protects the University and our systems over critical business periods (i.e. Financial year end, clearing and enrolment).

This year the change restriction window for all corporately managed systems will be between 7 August and 29 September.

Finance systems are included in an addition change restriction period due to year end, and this will run between 3 July and 1 August.

This only relates to the Finance corporately managed systems such as E5 and Way2Pay (SHUcard), not Clarity Travel Management and Fraedom (purchase cards).

The change restriction period means that no configuration changes can be done to the systems, however this does not mean we cannot make any business rules changes (such as adding new activity codes and changes to authorisation structures).

If you have any questions, please ask Matt Parkin.

Professional Services Operating Model – new Blog
