This week Bernie Marshall (Man Accts) has shared a couple of inspiring quotes with me, and I couldn’t pick between them (although if I had to obviously the one with the cat would win) – so here they both are…
Bike Rehab
If you have been inspired by our colleagues who are attempting the Tour de Yorkshire routes this weekend then this may be a very well times update from Green Champion Rosalind Wastnidge.
If you’re thinking of getting on the road on your bike but you’re a bit worried of what to do if things go wrong on the way, why not try one of the demonstrations being offered by Bike Rehab, following on from the Bike Doctor visits to our campuses in April, Bike Rehab will be delivering ‘The Essentials Demonstration’ in May.
This would be perfect for first timers or seasoned cyclists alike. During this session they will share expert tips and techniques covering safety check overs and diagnosis, removing wheels, disconnecting and attaching brakes, puncture repair, torque, cleaning and lubrication, chain wear and care tips. After the session, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and get a free bike check and / or minor repair on your bike:
- 4 May, 12pm – 1pm – City Campus – Charles Street (12.3.17)
- 25 May, 12pm – 1pm – Collegiate Campus – Heart of the Campus (HOTC.0.14)
Tuesday in the City Centre
There will be an open top bus parade to celebrate Sheffield United Football Club’s promotion. The event will run from 6.15pm and we are anticipating road closures and parking restrictions between 2pm and 9.30pm as follows.
The road closures are:
• Surrey Street
• Norfolk Row (Norfolk Street junction)
• Fargate
• Leopold St (West St junction)
• Pinstone St (outbound between Surrey Street and Cross Burgess Street)
• Burgess St (Barkers Pool House)
Exit will be possible towards Cross Burgess Street and Cambridge Street onto Division Street.
• Holly Street/Balm Green/Barkers Pool
SHU and Sheffield’s cultural life
VC Chris Husbands wrote an article for the Telegraph this week on the University’s role in Sheffield‘s cultural life. In it he talks about some of the great city events that Sheffield has to offer, and the Universities role in those events – worth a read as most of us have no doubt gone along to one of them at some point.
