Morning all,
I am not sure how often this happens – that the two nicest days of the week fall at the weekend, but I hope you are all planning on making the most of it. For all our half marathon runners out there – I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing for Sunday?! You will have definitely earned that trip to the beer garden afterwards…
Transforming Lives through Leading Locally & Engaging Globally (Part 3)
Yesterday we all received our third email and video on how we as a Directorate can contribute towards the University aim of Transforming Lives.
This week the video is by Professor Chris Husbands who is chairing the Local & Global Engagement Board, you can click the picture to watch the video if you didn’t get chance yesterday.
Can you build on the ideas that FPLT shared with us on how we as teams or as individuals can have an impact in this area?
Sheffield Half Marathon this weekend
Last week we shared a post on who in the Directorate was running the Sheffield Half Marathon this weekend. We have 5 runners in total – Tom (SPI) and Jon (BIS) running for the Hallam Fund, Louise (Corp Rep) for Alopecia UK and Debbie (Corp Rep) who is running just for fun?!
Vicki (HWB Man Accts) is also attempting her first half marathon for Diabetes UK. She shared this, ‘I have been training for 6 months and I am raising money for Diabetes UK as they are a charity close to my heart (or should I say my pancreas (seeing as I am Diabetic)). I have run 3 10k’s in the last year and this is my target for this year’.
Good Luck to all of them, I look forward to hearing how you all get on next week!
Structure Charts
We thought it would be a good time to share our Directorate’s team structure charts, click the team below to view their structure.
Fivers
In May the old five pound notes will be out of circulation – if you have any old fivers lying around you will need to spend or bank them before they are no longer official tender.
Yammer
Yammer is a social networking tool for business, and as SHU staff you can sign up to the SHU page.
Staff are starting to use it more and more and it is becoming a good place to learn bits of information from across the University. Here is an example, a post from Terence Perera in ACES about a recent trip he made to Abu Dhabi.
You can also set up private groups, which are a good place to collaborate especially if you are not all located in one place. If you would like to know more please contact myself or Vanessa and we will be happy to show you a bit more.
DTS moving
Digital Technology Services staff are undergoing a series of relocations between now and the beginning of May. While porters are moving tables and chairs between different buildings, fully furnished meeting rooms in our buildings will be in short supply so please bear with us if meeting locations need to be rearranged.
The chain of moves will see DTS establish a City Hub in two buildings; Church House and 20 Furnival Street. Hallamshire Business Park will be vacated.
STEM building to be unveiled
Work was completed this week on a two-year refurbishment of Sheaf and EMB that has included the creation of a stunning atrium linking the two buildings.
If you would like to have a look around, there is an open house tour on Thursday 20th April, you can register your interest in attending.
Been trying to stop smoking?
HWB is undertaking an ethically-approved study, funded by Heart Research UK that will explore the effects of e-cigarettes on the arteries and small veins in people who are making a stop-smoking attempt.
If you think you are interested in being a participant then you can read more here.
What else this week?
Managers’ Forum Feedback, Green Champion update, BIS to talk at European conference, Finance engagement action plan update.
