Well done for all surviving your first couple of weeks back at work. I hope you’re all as excited and proud as I am about the things that we all achieved together as a Finance Directorate in 2015.
In no particular order:
1) We took a huge step forward to create our Mission, Vision and Values.
Mission:
“To ensure financial sustainability for Sheffield Hallam University through high quality business relationships, informed decision making, expert advice and guidance.”
Vision:
“To be the best Finance Directorate in the sector; a highly motivated, engaged team, valued by all”
Values:
To THRIVE
Trust
Honesty
Respect
Innovative
Valued
Engaged
You will see more work and attention being paid to these in the coming year.
2) You all created your own team visions. These are all fantastic and are available to look at on our Flickr account:

Some examples below:
Although these are for the individual teams, these can also be used by all of us to understand how our colleagues in other teams help us all achieve our Finance Vision.
In the next post we will look at these in more detail.
3) Away Day
And what a day it was…
It will be difficult but we are hoping to top this in 2016.
4) Engagement Working Group
We have a fully set up and operational group of lovely colleagues who are specifically looking at how we can improve the working environment for all of us……pretty awesome huh!
As far as I can see we are the only area of the university that has a group where all teams in their area are teaming up to do just that.
We are leading the way, and doing it all to make this directorate an even greater place to work.
All of your ideas have been collected by your Engagement Champions and these ideas fed into the working group. They have been used to create our very own Engagement Strategy and Action Plan. More on this in the next few weeks…..
Well done and thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, pointed out challenges, gave their thoughts and different perspectives. You are all really making a difference.
5) Engagement Champions
I couldn’t write a post about what we have done this year without mentioning these awesome trailblazers. Our Engagement Champions are in every team spreading the good word, asking for your opinions and demonstrating what it is to be an engaged member of staff.
Without these people we would have no Strategy; we wouldn’t be getting as many of your points of view and we would be much further behind in the engagement journey.
Thank you to all of our Engagement Champions and those of you who have stepped up to the plate when they have been unable to attend meetings. Your work is truly appreciated.
6) Engagement Strategy and Action Plan
The Engagement Strategy and Action Plan have now been drafted and actions have been prioritised; once approved this will be shared with you all.
This is a big step going forward. The Strategy explains why we are doing what we are doing, what approach we will be taking, how we will measure it, and what we are hoping to achieve. The Action Plan is a living document that contains the specific things we will be hopefully doing this year to make our directorate even better.
I for one am looking forward to getting down to the nitty gritty in 2016, and I hope you all are too.
