In collaboration with Auteur Publishing, we are delighted to launch the most recent entry in the Devil’s Advocates series at Fear 2000: Simon Brown’s indispensable volume on Creepshow (1982). This newest addition to Auteur’s celebrated imprint revisits a film that is often considered a minor footnote in the careers of Stephen King and George A. Romero and explores its inspirations, making, release, reception and legacy.

The book will be available to purchase directly from Auteur and the author will be present to sign copies on request.

 

Fear 2019

A Roundtable Discussion on International Horror
Sponsored by the Devil’s Advocates Series

The fourth annual Fear 2000 conference will this year conclude with a roundtable discussion between leading horror academics and industry professionals, sponsered by the Devil’s Advocates series. The panel will discuss the state of horror media in 2019, and will give particular consideration to horror as a transnational and transmedial genre. This roundtable will feature the following speakers:

  • Stacey Abbott: Reader in Film and Television Studies at Roehampton University, Stacey Abbott is the author of Celluloid Vampires (2007), Angel: TV Milestone (2009) and a forthcoming BFI Classics volume on Near Dark (1987).
  • Chris Cooke: Lecturer in Film and Media Production at Sheffield Hallam University, Chris Cooke is a feature film director and the co-founder of Nottingham’s Mayhem Film Festival, an annual event dedicated to horror, science fiction and cult cinema.
  • Lindsay Hallam: Senior Lecturer in Film at the University of East London, Lindsay Hallam is the author of Screening the Marquis de Sade: Pleasure, Pain and the Transgressive Body in Film (2012) and the Devil’s Advocates volume Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (2018).
  • Laura Mee: Senior Lecturer in Film and Television at the University of Hertfordshire, Laura Mee is the author of the forthcoming Reanimated: The Contemporary American Horror Film Remake from Edinburgh University Press and the Devil’s Advocates volume The Shining (2017).
  • Iain Robert Smith: Lecturer in Film Studies at King’s College London, Iain Robert Smith is the author of The Hollywood Meme: Transnational Adaptations in World Cinema (2016) and co-editor of the collections Transnational Film Remakes (2017) and Media Across Borders (2016).

This roundtable will be followed by closing remarks from the conference organisers and post-conference drinks in the Showroom Cinema Bar.
