The rationale for learner-centred teaching

Learner-centred teaching means putting the learner first and explains why the concept of learner engagement is so important.

First, know who your students are and appreciate their diversity. Doing so will confirm that however much you, as teacher, would like to focus on delivering learning objectives, the reality is your students arrive in your classroom with a wide range of experiences and aspirations. It is not enough to simply deliver what you think they need, you need to engage their curiorisity and develop their intrinsic motivation.

Engage your students by making your subject meaningful to each and every student by creating small and large challenges: activities, discussions, enquiries, problems and projects are the foundations of learner-centred teaching
