University English Scheme

Sheffield Hallam Erasmus/Exchange students who are non-native English speakers can take advantage of the University English Scheme. Students can choose from a range of free modules, workshops and classes to help develop their academic English for undergraduate and postgraduate study.  Classes and workshops run over the course of the semester and attendance at weekly sessions is advised, but not a requirement. You can view a full list of available workshops and start to register for these via UniHub when you have enrolled on your course.

Conversation Club

Conversation Club is one of the best ways to meet friends from around the world. It gives you the chance to practise your English though participating in informal conversations, enhanced by music, videos and interactive games to help you start talking. Conversation Club runs every two weeks throughout term time.

Language Advisory Service

The Language Advisory Service (LAS) offers one-to-one appointments with an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturer to discuss improvements to spoken or written work. The lecturers are able to provide guidance on a range of issues such as text organisation, grammar, vocabulary, argument construction and pronunciation.

The Language Advisory service also offers a range of resources for students who want to develop their academic English across a variety of different formats.
