On The Radar: The Long Term Impact of (Social) Change Communication via Corporate Social Media

We are lucky to be visited by Professor Dr Holger Sievert, the study coordinator and professor for Media Management, specialising in PR and Communication Management at Macromedia University based in Cologne, Germany. Prof. Sievert will be speaking about how companies can effectively employ social media tools in the engagement of employees with their work, and how this can also lead to fundamental change in the business models of the companies themselves.

 

In an increasingly disengaged world, companies need to engage employees to boost employee loyalty and productivity.  More and more companies are also establishing social tools in their internal communication.  When such internal company platforms are established they have the potential to change employee engagement, knowledge management, leadership structure and even the fundamental business models of companies.  However, there is an important interdependence: the use of internal social media fosters stronger employee engagement, while a minimum of existing trust-based employee engagement is necessary to successfully establish these tools.  Therefore, “digital employee engagement” can only function as at least partly “blended employee engagement”.
