Ethics briefing for new doctoral students

What is the session about?

In this session, Dr Keith Fildes will be introducing you to Ethics in the context of Doctoral Research and addressing the key questions of  

  • Why do Ethics matter?  
  • What are your responsibilities?  
  • How do you apply for Ethical approval?  
  • What can go wrong? 

We will also briefly introduce you to the Converis system, used at the University for Ethical approval applications. There will be a chance to ask questions within the session about any points raised or any concerns that you may have. 

What do I need to do before attending?

Prior to attending the session, please have a look at the Ethics pages on the University web site via https://www.shu.ac.uk/research/excellence/ethics-and-integrity to familiarise yourself with some of the terminology. 

Who is the session for?

All PGRs can attend, it is aimed at new starters.
