Smizz will give a talk this afternoon as part of the Transmission<\/strong> Fine Art Lecture series. Lab4Living<\/a> researcher and PhD student Smizz<\/a>, a graduate of both Fine Art and Radiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University, will talk about how collectives, collaboration and friendship can be the best transmission of (radical) care.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cTo transmit is to transfer, from communication, action sending a message, to radiant energy that passes through a substance like in radiotherapy”.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In this talk I will discuss how the act of transmission underpins the values and hopes of my practice \u2013 to help reveal the invisible, to draw out information and power imbalances, to use art practice as a tool to enact actions of radical care.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Artist Smizz<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Transmission is a long established series of lectures in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University and was convened by Dr Sharon Kivland in 2001. As well as the annual series of lectures, Transmission has resulted in symposia and a range of publications published by Artwords Press<\/a>, London. The lecture series has an annual theme, and involves students from Fine Art, from undergraduates to PhDs.<\/p>\n

Over the Autumn 2020 semester in six events, six speakers will discuss their practice in relation to the theme of transmission.<\/p>\n
