At the memorial for Rosa Luxemburg on 13 June 1919, the political radical, art historian, critic, and writer Carl Einstein gave an oration. There is no record of what Einstein said, how he said it, or what it addressed. This collection assembles a broad range of texts from artists, film-makers, writers, poets, critics, philosophers, and art historians. Each contribution is a speculation on what Einstein might have delivered, each as likely and as unlikely to be Einstein\u2019s as any other. Through the multiple substitutions of Carl Einstein\u2014a practice that Einstein pursued throughout his life\u2014themes of masquerade, mistaken identities, of persons substituted after the event, of orations, speeches, and texts rewritten, speculated upon and redelivered, celebrating, mapping, and fictionalising a past life, are explored.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

TC McCormack<\/a>\u00a0is an artist who\u2019s central preoccupation has always been with how we navigate the space between the legacy of modernism and the reach of contemporaneous media. He makes work that explores the aesthetics of cultural memory and considers various phenomena of resistance space. His work is primarily based in film and installation, yet also spans collage, photography and text. This cross disciplinary approach enables him to inhabit a number of artistic, curatorial and research strategies. His research involves searching through archives and speculative contexts, in the social sphere, architecture, film history, sculpture, technology, museology and urban planning. TC has exhibited widely internationally and the UK, his work is commissioned by arts institutions and galleries.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
