Through <em>Gravity<\/em>, we offer an innovation platform that aims to build a learning community seeking new forms of understanding of art practice through speculative conversations that are often propositional and co-created between students and speakers. Each presentation will begin with a discussion of an object from the museum collections in relation to art practice. In preparation for the lectures, you may wish to reflect on <a href=\"http:\/\/collections.museums-sheffield.org.uk\/objects\/viewcollections\/Objects?t:state:flow=471db78e-e5be-45c6-b610-b067d5454896\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">artefacts held in Sheffield\u2019s museum archives<\/a>. What is the significance of these collections in relation to the city\u2019s history? What is preserved and why? These multi-faceted art projects have included public actions, digital works, casting, photography and painting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pennymccarthy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Penny McCarthy<\/a> works primarily with drawing and text, often making works that consider the things that get remembered and preserved over time. Her work is presented internationally in a variety of contexts: in museums and galleries, at conferences, and as live projects and publications. Penny\u2019s work has been supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, Wellcome Trust, Arts Council England and Arts and Humanities Research Council. She was <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/penny-mccarthy-evelyn-williams-drawing-prize\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">awarded the Evelyn Williams Drawing Prize in 2019<\/a>. Her recent projects have been for <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/autogena-mccarthy-liquid-crystal-display\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Liquid Crystal Display<\/em> at Site Gallery, Sheffield<\/a>, <em>Picture Room <\/em>in New York and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/tag\/beware-the-cat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Beware the Cat<\/em><\/a>, a research collaboration touring theatres including the RSC Stratford in 2019. She is working towards a solo exhibition at Hastings Contemporary that will open in 2021.
