{"id":8336,"date":"2019-10-03T12:00:40","date_gmt":"2019-10-03T11:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=8336"},"modified":"2019-12-03T16:13:06","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T16:13:06","slug":"ots-festival-joanne-lee-perec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/ots-festival-joanne-lee-perec\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Nothing Happens in Huddersfield&#8217; &#8211; Sheffield Off the Shelf festival event features Joanne Lee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offtheshelf.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sheffield Off the Shelf Festival<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Ideas Alive at 5.45PM: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offtheshelf.org.uk\/event\/nothing-happens-in-huddersfield\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>Nothing Happens in Huddersfield<\/strong><\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Tuesday 22 October 2019, 5.45PM<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/weareambulo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ambulo Caf\u00e9<\/a>, Sheffield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Nothing Happens in Huddersfield<\/em> is organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.ac.uk\/geography\/staff\/phillips_richard\/index\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Richard Phillips<\/a>, of the Department of Geography at University of Sheffield, editor of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclpress.co.uk\/products\/116894\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>George Perec\u2019s Geographies: Material, Performative and Textual Spaces<\/em><\/a>, a book offering a rounded picture of Perec&#8217;s geographical interests.<\/p>\n<p>At the event, Sheffield-based writers, performers and artists who have been inspired by the French experimental writer will be giving readings.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring amongst them is senior lecturer in Graphic Design <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/joanne-lee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joanne Lee<\/a> who has contributed <em>Force yourself to see more flatly: a photographic investigation of the infra-ordinary.<\/em> This visual\/verbal essay takes several of Perec\u2019s instructions as to how to investigate place and uses them to examine the surfaces and messages found from Loxley Road to the Malin Bridge tram terminus, reflecting along the way about the research potential of a \u2018determinedly superficial\u2019 approach.<\/p>\n<p><em>George Perec\u2019s Geographies: Material, Performative and Textual Spaces<\/em>, released on 14 October 2019 also features a chapter by Joanne entitled <em>Photographic investigation of the infraordinary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to all with no need to book.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/joanne-lee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joanne Lee<\/a>\u00a0is a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at Sheffield Hallam University.
