The event organised by Geoff Blackwell (RPS) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/andrew-robinson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Robinson<\/a> (SHU Photography) is free to all SHU staff and students and includes presentations and papers by external speakers and RPS members alongside SHU staff and students.<\/p>\n<p>The morning session, chaired by Roger Farnham, will\u00a0explore James\u00a0Watt\u2019s possible contribution to the origins of photography as a celebration of the 200-year anniversary of his death and the 250th anniversary of his steam engine patent.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers on James Watt include <strong>Ben Russell<\/strong> from the Science Museum, who curates mechanical engineering and is responsible for the famous James Watt\u2019s Workshop; <strong>Rose Teanby<\/strong>, who has been researching optical artefacts in Watt\u2019s workshop, and <strong>Roger Farnham<\/strong> who will describe the research behind\u00a0<em>The James Watt Print Show<\/em>\u00a0and Watt\u2019s 1780 patent letter-copier process.
