We are pleased to announce that Penny McCarthy<\/a> was last week awarded the\u00a0Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at this year’s\u00a0Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize<\/a>. Penny, a Reader in Fine Art at SHU, had two of her drawings in the exhibition:\u00a0DNA in Nature\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Photo 51.\u00a0<\/em>As part of the award, Penny will receive a \u00a310,000 prize and go on to hold a solo exhibition at the prestigious Hastings Contemporary<\/a> in 2020-2021, exploring events and archives specific to Hastings itself.<\/p>\n

Penny’s graphite drawings typically evolve through a ‘time-heavy and painstaking process of transcription, using archival material and images’.<\/p>\n

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize is the pre-eminent annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK with a commitment to\u00a0championing excellence and promoting and celebrating the breadth of contemporary drawing practice within the UK.\u00a0The project is led by founding Director Professor Anita Taylor<\/a> and supported by\u00a0the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Penny McCarthy’s\u00a0DNA in Nature<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019 exhibition will be presented at\u00a0The Salisbury Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Wiltshire from 12 October 2019 to 11 January 2020. It will then return to\u00a0Trinity Buoy Wharf\u00a0where it will be available to view from 18 January to 2 February 2020. The exhibition will then tour to\u00a0The Gallery at De Montfort University<\/a>\u00a0in Leicester from 21 February to 18 April 2020.<\/p>\n
