Lab4Living is recruiting to expand its team of researchers as the 100-Year Life project gets underway. Plans for the project, funded through Research England\u2019s\u00a0Expanding Excellence in England<\/a>\u00a0(E3) research fund, include a new creative working space, an international research hub and a Design4Ageing Academy.<\/p>\n

The E3 award has enabled a major recruitment opportunity which includes a Professor, two Readers, a Project Manager, five Research Assistants, 12 PhD students and an administrator. Current vacancies are for a Professor<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0two Readers <\/strong><\/a>and a\u00a0Research Assistant<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Professor Paul Chamberlain, Principal Investigator on the 100-Year Life project and Co-Director of Lab4Living said:<\/p>\n

We welcome applications from individuals whose research falls within the broad subject base of the\u00a0Art and Design Research Centre\u00a0<\/a>who can add to the quality, delivery and sustainability of the \u2018100-year life\u2019 programme and Lab4Living.<\/p>\n

Professor of Art and Design<\/h3>\n

We are seeking the\u00a0appointment of a Professor<\/a>\u00a0to join the\u00a0Lab4Living<\/a>\u00a0leadership team and support the delivery of this funded research programme and contribute to the management, development, delivery and sustainability of Lab4Living and the wider\u00a0Art and Design Research Centre<\/a>\u00a0(ADRC).<\/p>\n

As a key member of Lab4Living, the new post-holder will contribute to developing models of knowledge translation across academia and industry.\u00a0The post-holder will be actively involved in the day-to-day running of L4L as well as mentoring staff including early career researchers.<\/p>\n

Readers<\/h3>\n

We are looking to appoint two Readers<\/a> to further enhance the existing skill set and research expertise of the team and to extend the reach and impact of our research.<\/p>\n

Readers will be a core member of the L4L management team and play an active role in fostering its vibrant interdisciplinary research culture. As well as contributing to activities associated with the day to day running of the Lab, readers will be integral in the development of new national and international initiatives including the establishment of the Design4Ageing Academy.<\/p>\n

Readers will deliver high quality design research outputs, securing external funding and undertaking a body of research that relates to the 100-year Life and the Future Home. Mentorship of Early Career Researchers and supervising PhD students will be an important aspect of the role.<\/p>\n

Design Researcher<\/h3>\n

We are seeking a Design Researcher<\/a> to work with colleagues to undertake activities to support the 100-Year Life project. Researchers have responsibility for creating tools for collecting and analysing data, translating findings of research into tangible designs (including 2 \/ 3 dimensional prototypes and products), and disseminating findings through a range of media (for example exhibition, film, written publications). There will also be the opportunity to contribute to the activities of the Lab4Living team including the Design4Health conference and journal.<\/p>\n

Graphics\/Communication Design Researcher<\/h3>\n

We are looking to appoint a Researcher<\/a> with experience and sound knowledge of graphics and communication design practice to support the 100-Year Life project. The post holder will have specific responsibility for the strand of research exploring the role of design in engaging with and communicating key messages to multiple audiences and stakeholders.\u00a0The post holder will develop materials to support dissemination (e.g. through printed, crafted and electronic media) and play a key role in contributing to exhibitions and design challenges, which are important elements of the broader research.<\/p>\n

The Lab4Living environment<\/h3>\n

Lab4Living<\/a>\u00a0is a trans-disciplinary research group, based on a collaborative community of researchers in design, healthcare and creative practices. We work together to develop develop products, services and interventions that promote dignity and enhance quality of life<\/p>\n

The post holders will be based in the heart of a well established and internationally recognised centre of research and industrial expertise in art and design. The\u00a0Art and Design Research Centre<\/a>\u00a0(ADRC) (established over 25 years ago and one of the first of its kind in the UK) leads and manages the disciplines of Fine Art, Design and Media Production at Sheffield Hallam University.<\/p>\n

Within the ADRC,\u00a0Design Futures<\/a>\u00a0is the Knowledge Transfer Unit, a centre for industrial collaboration with expertise in industrial and packaging design.\u00a0Lab4Living researchers work closely with\u00a0Design Futures Packaging<\/a>\u00a0on projects such as the\u00a0Life Caf\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0kit production and\u00a0Exhibition in a box<\/a>\u00a0projects.<\/p>\n

Internationally, Lab4Living has strong partnerships in over 20 countries (from the Netherlands to New Zealand). The Lab has also\u00a0created new spaces which bring the design and health community together, through the biennial\u00a0Design4Health conferences<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Design For Health journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n
