Lab4Living researchers Claire Craig<\/a> and Helen Fisher<\/a> continue their trip to Australia and New Zealand at the Design for Health Symposium on 19th and 20th September:<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n

A focal point of Claire and Helen\u2019s trip ‘down under’ was the Design for Health Symposium<\/strong>, hosted by Good Health Design<\/a> at the Auckland University of Technology. Claire presented a keynote posing the question ‘Design for Health: What does it mean in the context of the 100 year life?\u2019<\/em><\/strong>. The symposium was attended by academics, designers, health professionals, government officials and community members from across the southern hemisphere.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Claire\u2019s keynote set the tone for an afternoon of mapping the design for health network simultaneously across three workshops within the university. Over 70 people took part in this exercise generating data to enable us to understand the landscape here and how we might connect and collaborate across the world and better understand the future direction of design for health as a discipline or practice. The final two hours of the day involved a meeting of the international visitors to explore what is happening in relation to design for health within an education\/teaching context. Around the table was representation from AUT, Monash, Deakin University, Dundee, Emily Carr, QUT, Singapore, Wellington and Canberra.<\/p>\n

We also facilitated two workshops at the Design for Health Symposium to share and generate feedback on the Life Caf\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0and the Ethical Roadmap – two products that have emerged from research projects within Lab4Living<\/a>. 24 participants engaged in our session on the Life Caf\u00e9 and 15 came to explore the Ethical Roadmap. The Life Caf\u00e9, Lifestyle Redesign<\/a> and Journeying through Dementia featured in a great exhibition at AUT.<\/p>\n

We had the opportunity to engage in a great workshop around Belonging, using ceramics as stimuli for conversation (by Imogen Zino<\/a>) and particularly enjoyed the keynote by Professor Welby Ings who presented the idea of disobedient thought<\/a>.<\/p>\n
