Dr Becky Shaw<\/a> will this month be exhibiting work as part of\u00a0Dynamic Environment<\/em><\/a>, an exhibition marking the culmination of works concluding Calgary’s\u00a0WATERSHED+ Dynamic Environment Lab<\/a>. The exhibition is complemented with a series of events\u00a0<\/a>opening on Thursday 26 September with a panel discussion at Contemporary Calgary. Becky will be hosting a public interactive tour centred around her\u00a0How Deep is Your Love?<\/em><\/a>\u00a0artworks (read more on the Blog\u00a0here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Dynamic Environment\u00a0<\/a>– WATERSHED+<\/em><\/strong>

Major natural events change our lives and shape how we think about nature. Living in this constant shifting and complex natural environment impacts how we relate to our landscape and to each other, before, during and after a major natural event. What role do we play in a dynamic environment and how does our relationship with nature further complicate these systems? How do we balance this reality with the emotive response we have to nature, to the city, and its spaces? These inquiries directed the development of the WATERSHED+ Dynamic Environment Lab.<\/p>\n

The Lab served as a launch point for each of the artists, taking their learnings from that shared experience to develop individual projects that would offer them the opportunity to build and nurture relationships with City staff and other subject matter experts as they explored the impacts of our continuously shifting environment. This exhibition marks the culmination of the artists\u2019 works as we reach the conclusion of the Dynamic Environment Lab.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Artists featured:<\/strong>\u00a0Steve Gurysh, Tim Knowles, Becky Shaw<\/a>, Peter Von Tiesenhausen and Stokley Towles<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The\u00a0WATERSHED+ Dynamic Environment Lab<\/em>\u00a0is a concept that immerses artists with the intent to support critical thinking, shared knowledge and to bring contemporary artists\u2019 practices into the work of the\u00a0Utilities and Environment Protection Department<\/a>. This issues-based Lab encourages artists to explore and experiment in response to the context of Calgary\u2019s water management system and the city.<\/p>\n

Dr Becky Shaw<\/a>\u00a0is Reader in Fine Art and leads the PhD cohort in the Art and Design Research Centre<\/a> at Sheffield Hallam University. She makes process-based, live artworks in the social realm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
