The &#8216;<strong>Head Up<\/strong>&#8216; collar was developed by a team including designers from <a href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lab4Living<\/a> within the Art &amp; Design Research Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Chris McDermott, head of the\u00a0interdisciplinary research team at the University of Sheffield, notes a significant moment\u00a0in one of the patient-designer group meetings which underlines the vital role of the designers in facilitating the patient-centred approach. The moment came when a service user realised they were driving the process by talking about their specific needs, and that the designers (<a href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lab4Living<\/a>&#8216;s <strong>Heath Reed<\/strong>, <strong>Andy Stanton<\/strong> and J<strong>oe Langley<\/strong>) were responding to their ideas. He believes the patient-centred approach is one reason the collar is so successful.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018<strong>Head up<\/strong>\u2019 collar has now been rolled out across the NHS and at least 25 trusts across the UK and around the world including the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The collar is manufactured and distributed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.talarmade.com\/products\/headup-collar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talarmade<\/a>.
