{"id":694,"date":"2016-11-15T13:00:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T13:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=694"},"modified":"2017-03-31T12:19:50","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T11:19:50","slug":"research-seminar-chloe-brown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/research-seminar-chloe-brown\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday 15 November 2016 &#8211; Lunchtime seminar with Chlo\u00eb Brown (Fine Art, SHU)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Speaker: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/chloe-brown\" target=\"_blank\">Chlo\u00eb Brown<\/a> (Fine Art)<br \/>\nTitle: The Soft Rebellion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since August 2015 researcher and senior lecturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/chloe-brown\" target=\"_blank\">Chlo\u00eb Brown<\/a> has been visiting and <a href=\"https:\/\/mocadetroit.org\/chloe-brown-dancing-in-the-boardroom\/\" target=\"_blank\">working in the US city of Detroit<\/a> to conduct her on-going practice-based research into what she terms \u2018soft rebellions\u2019. Detroit is renowned for being in many ways the epitome of a city in post-industrial crisis. It is also famous for the development of soul music, particularly through Motown Records, during the 1960\u2019s and \u201870\u2019s. Utilising artistic research methodologies Brown has used this history to challenge, question and contribute to specific narratives within the city, working and collaborating with many native Detroiters, including Martha Reeves, of seminal Motown group Martha and The Vandellas.
