‘Fighting for Life’ by Brian Daniels<\/h3>\n

hosted by Lab4Living<\/a>, Sheffield Hallam University<\/h6>\n
in partnership with Brian Daniels and the Crucible Theatre Sheffield.<\/h6>\n

 <\/p>\n

‘Fighting for life’<\/a> is a play by award winning writer, Brian Daniels<\/a>. Inspired by the experiences of the Findlay family, it explores issues relating to end of life care. It is a powerful story about navigating systems, coping with the complex challenges that living with life-limiting illnesses bring, about the centrality of communication but above all it is a story about love, about family and about relationships.<\/p>\n

Lab4Living is pleased to host this play about the experiences of Helen Findlay,\u00a0<\/strong>on whom the Marie Curie Findlay report<\/a> was based. Helen is a member of Marie Curie\u2019s Expert Voice Panel. ‘Fighting for Life’ relates to Lab4Living<\/a> research around end of life care, in particular The Life Cafe<\/a>, funded through Marie Curie’s Design to Care programme. The Life Cafe Kit, designed by Helen Fisher and Claire Craig, aims to promote and support conversations about what individuals find meaningful in life and in care.<\/p>\n

After each performance of ‘Fighting for Life’ is a panel discussion with experts from across research in this area (including Prof Paul Chamberlain and Helen Findlay).<\/p>\n

‘Fighting For Life\u2019 was a finalist in the Patient Experience Network National Awards 2018.<\/p>\n

Fighting For Life – The Story<\/h4>\n

James and Joan Findlay have been married for 62 years. Joan has dementia and, with their four adult children leading busy lives elsewhere, her principal carer is her husband, James.
\nWhen James is diagnosed with motor neurone disease, the family find themselves navigating a fractured health and social care system to get their parents the help they need and to keep them together to the end.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Performances:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 2.00pm and 6.00pm, Monday 13th May<\/p>\n

A panel discussion of the themes explored by the play will follow directly after each performance.<\/em><\/p>\n

Location:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Adelphi Room, Crucible Theatre, Sheffield<\/p>\n
