It tells a tale of witchcraft, religious controversy, and talking cats in a bid to help us imagine what animals might say about the world if they had the ability to talk.<\/p>\n<p>Centred on the grisly alchemical experiments of a rambling priest seeking to understand the language of cats, the story asks a question that has provoked humans across the ages: do birds and beasts have reason?<\/p>\n<div><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.attenboroughcentre.com\/events\/3054\/beware-the-cat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Beware the Cat<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><strong>Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, Falmer BN1 9QF<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"date\"><strong>Friday 10 May 2019,\u00a07PM \u2013 8.15PM<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"date\">Free but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.attenboroughcentre.com\/event-details\/?eventId=3054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ticketed<\/a>.<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.ac.uk\/english\/people\/babbage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Frances Babbage<\/a>\u00a0from the University of Sheffield\u2019s School of English and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sussex.ac.uk\/profiles\/447737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Rachel Stenner<\/a>\u00a0from the School of English at the University of Sussex have worked with Terry O\u2019Connor from UK theatre ensemble\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forcedentertainment.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forced Entertainment<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/penny-mccarthy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Penny McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0from Sheffield Hallam\u2019s Fine Art department to adapt the novel into a theatre performance for audiences across the UK.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Supported by:<\/strong> University of Sheffield, Festival of the Mind, Society for Renaissance Studies, University of Sussex and the Higher Education Innovation Fund.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/penny-mccarthy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Penny McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0is a Reader in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
