Abstract:<\/strong>
\nThis presentation is part of a larger doctoral work, which investigated the relationship between Saudi women\u2019s identities in the offline sphere and their online practices on social media platforms (SMP). Eight Saudi women, who are active social media users, were recruited, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews and online observations of online practices on Twitter. Presented findings in this seminar discusses the different positions participants hold towards a prominent women\u2019s issue in Saudi Arabia, namely, the #endguardianship Twitter campaign. Moreover, they indicate that Saudi women\u2019s opinions towards #endguardianship are complex and not unanimous. Finally, this presentation stresses on the heterogeneity of Saudi women\u2019s positions towards religious and cultural transformations, namely, veiling, online activism, women’s rights and (Saudi) feminism.<\/p>\n

Biography:<\/strong>
\nGhayda Aljuwaiser is a PhD candidate in the Cultural, Communication & Computing Research Institute (C3RI) at Sheffield Hallam University. She holds B.A and M.A in Sociology from King Abdul-Aziz University (KAU), Jeddah \u2013 Saudi Arabia. She worked as T.A for four years, in KAU, in two departments: sociology and human communication, where she taught several modules in Sociology, Communication skills and Thinking skills. Since 2013 she earned a scholarship from her work (Faculty of media and communication @ KAU) to pursue her higher education. In 2014, she started her thesis: Saudi Women\u2019s Identities and Online Practices Across Social Media Platforms. You can find more about her on Academia.edu: GHAYDAALJUWAISER.<\/p>\n
