{"id":6371,"date":"2009-10-01T12:00:12","date_gmt":"2009-10-01T11:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=6371"},"modified":"2019-02-26T15:15:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T15:15:36","slug":"lab4living-showcase-work-pioneers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/lab4living-showcase-work-pioneers\/","title":{"rendered":"Lab4Living showcase work at EPSRC Pioneers event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from Sheffield Hallam&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lab4Living<\/a> had the opportunity to showcase their work at the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/epsrc.ukri.org\/newsevents\/multimedia\/pioneers09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pioneers event<\/a> at the Kensington Olympia in London. The event, organised by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (<a href=\"https:\/\/epsrc.ukri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EPSRC<\/a>) brought together academics, researchers, policy makers and businesses from across the UK to share cutting edge research and innovative practice.<\/p>\n<p>Lab4Living was invited to showcase both its <em><a href=\"https:\/\/lab4living.org.uk\/projects\/future-bathroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Future Bathroom<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/clahrc-sy.nihr.ac.uk\/our-themes\/telehealth-care-technologies-tact\/projects\/smart2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SMART2<\/a> <\/em>projects in an interactive display that attracted widespread interest from the research and business communities.<\/p>\n<p><em>Future Bathroom<\/em>, which focuses on making the bathroom a more comfortable and safe place for older people, was praised for its innovative research methodology and its focus on the training of older people as community researchers.<\/p>\n<p>The philosophy of designing with people is at the heart of the project and is reflected in other elements of its portfolio of work.<\/p>\n<p>This was yet another endorsement of the exciting development that are taking place in research at the university within Lab4Living, a collaboration between Centre for Health and Social Care Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/research\/specialisms\/health-and-social-care-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHSCR<\/a>)\u00a0and the Art and Design Research Centre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/research\/specialisms\/cultural-communication-and-computing-research-institute\/research-centres\/art-and-design-research-centre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ADRC<\/a>) in the Faculty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/jobs\/what-we-do\/academic\/faculty-of-science-technology-and-arts-sta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACES<\/a>, which brings together research expertise across the fields of health, design, engineering and computer science.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from Sheffield Hallam&#8217;s Lab4Living had the opportunity to showcase their work at the recent Pioneers event at the Kensington Olympia in London.
