SHU\u00a0Professor of Interaction Design Daniela Petrelli<\/a> has been invited to speak at this year’s MobileCH<\/a> workshop. The workshops, in its second year, is focused on Mobile Access to Cultural Heritage and will be held in Barcelona in conjunction with Mobile HCI 2018<\/a> (the 20th\u00a0International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services).<\/p>\n

Daniela will be giving a talk entitled\u00a0Beyond the Phone: Mobile Cultural Heritage in the Age of the Internet of Things<\/em>\u00a0on Monday 03 September 2018.\u00a0This invited talk is sponsored by the European Project H2020 CrossCult<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the late 90s, mobile devices have been a favoured platform for the delivery of digital content in cultural heritage settings and apps are now commonplace. The emerging Internet of Things could change this landscape: by enabling the seamless integration of the material exhibition with the digital content, and by collecting and exploiting use data it is possible to create novel visitors\u2019 experiences and services. Using case studies from the EU project meSch<\/a> used by over 20,000 visitors across Europe, Daniela will first compare the use of a mobile phone with a bespoke tangible interaction as means to access multimedia content in an exhibition and outline pros and cons of both technologies. Daniela will then discuss a number of implemented examples showing the opportunities of designing with cultural heritage professionals.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Professor Daniela Petrelli<\/a>\u00a0is Professor of Interaction Design at Sheffield Hallam University. Daniela\u2019s current research focuses on novel forms of interaction design that combine digital technology with product design, also known as Tangible and Embedded Interaction. Her investigations into these hybrid digital-physical scenarios are within two different domains: personal memories and cultural heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n
