It\u00a0<\/span>is a\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">bi-annual, open-access, peer-reviewed journal sponsored by the UCL Institute of Education\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bfi.org.uk\/education-research\">British Film Institute<\/a>, the Centre for the Moving Image,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.creativescotland.com\/\">Creative Scotland<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.transgressivenorth.com\/\">Transgressive North<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>With contributions from a range of voices &#8211; experts in film education and classroom practitioners &#8211; the journal\u2019s first issue reflects on Alain Bergala\u2019s canonic text <a href=\"https:\/\/cup.columbia.edu\/book\/the-cinema-hypothesis\/9783901644672\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Cinema Hypothesis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The journal has two key aims:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>to further understandings of the diverse approaches to film education around the world<\/strong>\u00a0by exploring how educators, practitioners and policymakers are responding to the questions of film education in different international contexts: in primary schools, secondary schools, universities and film schools, and in programmes of education taking place outside institutions such as community projects and clubs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>to develop a critical discourse around these diverse approaches<\/strong>\u00a0by considering how the work of relevant theorists casts light upon film education practice, and encouraging film practitioners and educators to reflect critically upon their practice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Film Education Journal\u00a0is the world\u2019s only publication committed to exploring how teachers and other educators work with film, and to involving other participants \u2013 policymakers, academics, researchers, cultural agencies and film-makers themselves \u2013 in that conversation.
