Taking place approximately every two months during 2018, Art Walks Sheffield<\/a> offers unique, individually curated perspectives on the many different visual arts practices throughout the city. They are based around journeys that take us from design to digital, 2D to 3D, conceptual to skills-based contemporary art and explore a host of maker practices within the city.<\/p>\n

May’s walk is on the theme of city life <\/em>and will be\u00a0led by Sarah Villeneau<\/a>, a ceramicist based at Yorkshire Artspace. Meeting at the\u00a0Sheffield Institute of Arts<\/a>\u00a0located in the\u00a0Head Post Office<\/a>, the walk will begin with Joanne Rucklidge, Joanne Lee and Frazer Hudson’s exhibition\u00a0Utter<\/a><\/em> Rubbish<\/a>, featuring a talk and tour by Joanne Lee; 35 Chapel Walk Gallery<\/a>‘s exhibition Sheffield: A Relationship to Buildings<\/em>\u00a0and Andrew Hunt’s\u00a0Portraits from the Market\u00a0<\/a><\/em>at Yorkshire Artspace Persistence Works.<\/p>\n

Utter Rubbish: Conversations about litter and waste<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0an exhibition by Sheffield Hallam University\u2019s\u00a0Frazer Hudson<\/a>,\u00a0Joanne Lee<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Joanna Rucklidge<\/a>; and a project about our complex relationship to discarded materials. It attends to the everyday instances of littering and fly-tipping that blight the city of Sheffield as elsewhere, and considers the resources wasted when we fail to recycle the rubbish our society so readily generates. Rather than reaching for easy judgement and too neat solutions, the project tries to linger with devalued stuff and to rethink the responses we can and do have to what has been thrown away.<\/p>\n
