The event is part of the British Academy’s season on\u00a0Revolutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A leading campaigner for women\u2019s and\u00a0workers\u2019 rights, Sylvia Pankhurst (1882-1960)\u00a0helped shape the policy and the methods of\u00a0the suffragette struggle. She attended the\u00a0Royal College of Art<\/a>, and as both an artist and\u00a0an activist, she placed visual imagery,\u00a0performance, costume and colour at the heart\u00a0of political activism and argument.\u00a0The panel will\u00a0discuss Sylvia Pankhurst, her\u00a0creative approach to fighting oppression and\u00a0the contemporary resonances of her work.<\/p>\n

This event is the fourth in a series re-thinking the life and work of influential historical figures from across the Academy\u2019s disciplines.\u00a0It follows events exploring Freud, Wollstonecraft and Malthus.<\/p>\n
