The presentation will particularly focus on three different areas:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Image and video processing for surveillance and security<\/li>\n<li>Visual attention modelling for scene understanding<\/li>\n<li>Embedded vision system design.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Dr Bhowmik will also talk about a new multimedia blockchain framework and\u00a0his current work towards emerging IoT (Internet of Things)\u00a0machine vision, using a recently installed IoT infrastructure at SHU.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/deepayan-bhowmik\">Dr Deepayan Bhowmik <\/a>joined the Department of Computing at Sheffield Hallam University as a lecturer in Oct. 2016. He received the PhD from the University of Sheffield in 2011. His PhD was funded by EPSRC through a prestigious \u2018Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award\u2019, awarded to the best international students. His earlier responsibilities include working with the University of Sheffield (2011-13, funded by Innovate UK) &amp; Heriot-Watt University (2013-16, funded by EPSRC) as a postdoctoral research associate and with ABB Ltd. as a systems engineer.<\/p>\n<p>His focused research theme is digital security, surveillance and trust; which includes signal and image processing for cybersecurity, surveillance in public spaces (e.g. crowd analysis and tracking) and embedded vision system design (low power hardware development on FPGAs). He has published over 35 peer reviewed papers in high impact journals (IEEE\/ACM) and premier conferences (GlobalSIP, EUSIPCO, ISCAS, DSP). He has been successful in receiving external funds from UK research council and other sources. He is an active reviewer for major IEEE\/IET\/ACM\/Elsevier journals and a guest editor of Elsevier Journal of Information Security and Applications. He is a committee member of the British Standards Institution (BSI) group IST\/037 coding of picture, audio, multimedia and hypermedia information.
