{"id":3235,"date":"2017-10-10T12:08:58","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T11:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=3235"},"modified":"2017-10-31T15:52:41","modified_gmt":"2017-10-31T15:52:41","slug":"research-seminar-dr-tim-woolliscroft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/research-seminar-dr-tim-woolliscroft\/","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday 17 October 2017 &#8211; Lunchtime Seminar with Timothy Woolliscroft (Sheffield Business School, SHU)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Speaker:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/timothy-woolliscroft\" target=\"_blank\">Timothy Woolliscroft<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Title:\u00a0Improving Healthcare Efficiency Through Smart Community, Utopia or Dystopia?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tim Woolliscroft has a professional background that includes and connects community health and circus.\u00a0 His current research approach draws from the professional experience of having worked in health and the creativity he gained working in the arts.\u00a0 Academically he has studied sociology, business and education at postgraduate level.\u00a0\u00a0 He is currently moving towards the end of a PhD that connects the concept of smart community to healthcare efficiency.\u00a0 This talk is based on some of the ideas that have emerged from this research project.<\/p>\n<p>Like the concept of smart city, the smart community concept is often associated with improving efficiency through revolutions in information technology.\u00a0 Incorporating ideas like real time monitoring these smart concepts are steps ahead of digital health.\u00a0 Given this these ideas could hold a key to unlocking healthcare efficiency.\u00a0 To consider if this is a solution the current NHS funding crisis Tim will be outlining two different visions of the future.\u00a0 Both imagine a new system formed through harnessing smart technologies and other aspects of the smart community concept.\u00a0 The first is a utopian vision of the future that takes an optimistic view of how ideas such as the Internet of things and artificial intelligence might help create a brave new world.\u00a0 The second vision is a little more cynical.\u00a0 It considers what could go wrong if those who access and control the power of new technology are not entirely benign.\u00a0 In this talk he draw upon ideas from social theory, science fiction and his own PhD research to underpin these visions and form conclusions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.00PM \u2013 2.00PM<br \/>\nTUESDAY 17 OCTOBER\u00a02017<br \/>\nCANTOR 9140<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/c3ri-seminar-series-2017-18\/\" target=\"_blank\">here\u00a0<\/a>for details of other seminars in the series.<\/p>\n<p>All SHU staff and students are welcome to attend the C3RI Lunchtime Research Seminars.
