SHU staff members Dr Eve Stirling<\/a>, Dr Becky Shaw<\/a> and Mel Levick-Parkin<\/a> will present at Advanced Visual Methods Summer School<\/a> at Z Arts Manchester<\/a> taking place between 28 and 29 September 2017.<\/p>\n

The summer school will provide practical and hands on experience of a range of visual methods that participants can apply or adapt to suit their own research. The module will provide in depth training on 1) visual theories 2) visual methods of data collection and 3) visual representation. Taking an explicitly cross-disciplinary approach, students will draw on thinking and methodologies from within social sciences, arts and humanities, and visual industries more widely, to think about the nature of the visual and its relationship to knowledge.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The summer school is aimed at doctoral researchers and across two days, theory, data collection and analysis methods will be taught with activities that aim to show designing and making as part of the research process.<\/p>\n

To coincide with the event, SHU Senior Lecturer of Design Dr Eve Stirling<\/a> has coordinated an exhibition entitled Process Made<\/em> exploring creative and visual practices within research across arts and social sciences and how the act of making something studies, analyses and represents aspects of the world and transforms the research process. featuring exhibitors from Manchester Metropolitan University, Sheffield Institute of Arts and the Royal College of Art. The exhibition will present final outputs and elements from the research process alongside each other to highlight the process of making. The exhibition is only open to the public in the evening of 28 September.<\/p>\n

Dr Eve Stirling<\/a> is a Senior Lecture in Design and Programme Leader for MA\/MFA Design. She is interested in the proliferation of digital spaces within our everyday lives and the relationship between time and space within these.<\/p>\n

Dr Becky Shaw<\/a> is Post Graduate Research Tutor in Art and Design, and researcher at the Art and Design Research Centre<\/a> at SHU.<\/p>\n
