{"id":2965,"date":"2017-09-18T17:59:18","date_gmt":"2017-09-18T16:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=2965"},"modified":"2017-09-21T16:50:58","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T15:50:58","slug":"tony-day-centric-tensor-unesco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/tony-day-centric-tensor-unesco\/","title":{"rendered":"CENTRIC present the TENSOR &#8216;DarkNet&#8217; project to UNESCO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/tony-day\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Day<\/a>, researcher and software developer in C3RI&#8217;s Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence and Organised Crime Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/centric\/\" target=\"_blank\">CENTRIC<\/a>) was in Paris last week to present the Technical Aspects of the Dark Web to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.unesco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">UNESCO.<\/a>\u00a0 The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.shu.ac.uk\/centric\/project\/tensor\/\" target=\"_blank\">TENSOR<\/a> project\u00a0was presented briefly as an example.<\/p>\n<p>Tony was invited to present to the\u00a0Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/new\/en\/communication-and-information\/intergovernmental-programmes\/information-for-all-programme-ifap\/homepage\/\" target=\"_blank\">IFAP<\/a>) and the Knowledge Societies Division of UNESCO. \u00a0The presentation which was delivered with simultaneous interpretation in English and French formed part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.unesco.org\/events\/expert-presentation-meeting-darknet-new-societal-legal-technological-and-ethical-challenges\" target=\"_blank\"><em>DarkNet: the New Societal, Legal, Technological and Ethical Challenges<\/em><\/a> event.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting discussed the\u00a0challenges of cyber threats and ways to improve national strategies through innovative and global solutions. The event attracted around\u00a0100 attendees,\u00a0including member state representatives, press and UN representatives.<\/p>\n<p>TENSOR (Retrieval and Analysis of Heterogeneous Online Content for Terrorist Activity Recognition) is a\u00a0H2020\u00a0funded project that began in September 2016. The project aims to\u00a0provide a powerful terrorism intelligence platform for\u00a0law enforcement agencies to support\u00a0the early detection of terrorist activities including radicalisation and recruitment.
