Two Brussels institutions, Argos<\/a> and ISELP<\/a>, have teamed-up to organise a large-scale exhibition on the theme of what community means in the modern day, what thresholds must be crossed and how we define ‘community’. Professor of Film & Media Arts Esther Johnson<\/a> will feature in this dual exhibition contemplating the implicit complexity of the theme of community, defined by four axes of urbanity, sociability, politics and environment.<\/p>\n

Esther’s films Alone Together, the Social Life of Benches<\/em><\/a> and Hinterland<\/em><\/a> are included in this exhibition, curated by Ive Stevenheydens & Ma\u00eft\u00e9 Vissault.<\/p>\n

Esther Johnson<\/a>\u00a0works at the intersection of artist moving image and documentary. Her poetic portraits focus on marginal worlds, revealing resonant stories that may otherwise remain hidden or ignored. Work has been exhibited internationally in 40 countries, and has also featured on television and radio. In 2012 Johnson won the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Performing and Visual Arts for young scholars. She is a Professor of Film & Media Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
