Asunder<\/em><\/a>, the award-winning film from film-maker and Professor of Film & Media Arts at Sheffield Hallam University Esther Johnson<\/a>, was the focus of two recent interviews Esther gave over the last couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

Asunder<\/em> tells the story of what happened to an English town during the First World War, with almost all of its men fighting abroad and its women and children left behind. The North East was in the front line, thanks to its shipyards and munitions factories. In an interview for The Culture Vulture<\/a>, Esther discusses her inspirations, future screenings of the film and finding time to direct, produce and edit a music video for Saint Etienne’s new single Dive<\/em><\/a>. Esther Johnson<\/a>\u00a0works at the intersection of artist moving image and documentary. Her poetic portraits focus on marginal worlds, revealing resonant stories that may otherwise remain hidden or ignored. Work has been exhibited internationally in 40 countries, and has also featured on television and radio. In 2012 Johnson won the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Performing and Visual Arts for young scholars. She is a Professor of Film & Media Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
