{"id":2817,"date":"2014-07-23T12:00:07","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T11:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=2817"},"modified":"2018-07-26T11:48:19","modified_gmt":"2018-07-26T10:48:19","slug":"hester-reeve-ymedaca-ysp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/hester-reeve-ymedaca-ysp\/","title":{"rendered":"Hester Reeve&#8217;s YMEDACA opens at Yorkshire Sculpture Park on 28 June 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hester Reeve&#8217;s <em>YMEDACA<\/em>: 28 June 2014 &#8211; 07 September 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The artist\u2019s concerns are documented in two exhibitions \u2013 &#8216;The Temple of the Muses&#8217; in the NAEA and &#8216;The Game Plan&#8217; in the Upper Space.<\/p>\n<p><em>YMEDACA<\/em> is the name for Reeve&#8217;s experimental open-air academy which, on 30 August 2014, will offer visitors a unique chance to experience creative activities inspired by Platonic questions such as &#8216;how can education bring joy to the soul?&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><em>YMEDACA<\/em> is a two-year project by live artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/hester-reeve\" target=\"_blank\">Hester Reeve<\/a> at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP). Inspired by the collections of the National Arts Education Archive as well as the landscape of the Bretton Estate, <em>YMEDACA<\/em> stood as a re-mapping of YSP as a contemporary translation of the very first university, Plato\u2019s \u2018Academos\u2019, established in ancient Greece. The project explores the relationship between art and philosophy, and innovates on forms of performance documentation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/hester-reeve\" target=\"_blank\">Hester Reeve<\/a> is a performance artist who works with Live Art actions, philosophy, dialogues, drawing and photography. Hester is a Reader in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University.
