{"id":2640,"date":"2015-11-12T12:00:58","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T12:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=2640"},"modified":"2018-07-26T12:28:07","modified_gmt":"2018-07-26T11:28:07","slug":"maria-hanson-rubbish-to-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/maria-hanson-rubbish-to-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Maria Hanson in live jewellery performance &#8216;JUNK: Rubbish to Gold&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shu.ac.uk\/about-us\/our-people\/staff-profiles\/maria-hanson\" target=\"_blank\">Maria Hanson<\/a>, Reader in Metalwork and Jewellery at Sheffield Hallam University, is one of 50 jewellers taking part in <a href=\"http:\/\/rubbishtogold.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>JUNK: Rubbish to Gold<\/em><\/a>, a playful exploration of community economies (exchange, giving, bartering, gathering, earning, harvesting); putting on display the process of creating the \u2018work of art\u2019. The performance is being live-streamed on screens in the <a href=\"https:\/\/macbirmingham.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">mac Birmingham<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birminghammuseums.org.uk\/jewellery\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of the Jewellery Quarter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Reusing is often perceived as the up-cycling of one object to another, from unwanted to desired, consumer leftovers turned into new desirable luxury consumables to buy. This reuse is the cornerstone of jewellery as a discipline, with materials shifting form to adapt to the newest fashion and trend. Yet the re-imagining of one object into another is infinitely more complex than it is often portrayed.<\/p>\n<p>Partnering charities will supply JUNK jewellery on account. Local businesses will provide tools and equipment. The School of Jewellery will provide a venue. Performers well-established and newly emerged will come to \u2018gift\u2019 skills in a performance which will be live-streamed.
