An exhibition of the works of celebrated Chinese painter and calligrapher Hu Leping opens Wednesday 24 May at the Sheffield Institute of Arts<\/a>, featuring a live painting during the opening event, which will be auctioned with proceeds donated to St. Luke’s Hospice<\/a>. At the closing evening, Hu will be giving an artist’s lecture.<\/p>\n

Born in Beijing in 1955, Hu studied under celebrated artist Mr Wangren. Working in the tradition of Chinese painting, Hu has gained critical acclaim throughout China – his work has been widely exhibited in China, is collected internationally and has been presented as gifts to foreign leaders by the Chinese government. Hu is currently the Deputy Secretary-General of the Beijing Painting and Calligraphy Art Research Association, the honorary president of American Chinese Art Society<\/a>, the senior adviser of American Painting and Calligraphy Institute, the executive director of Hu Leping International Center for the Arts; besides, Hu has served as a visiting professor at Beijing University Institute of Chinese as a Foreign Education, and he taught foreign students Chinese traditional freehand painting more than ten years at Beijing University.<\/p>\n
