Journalism lecturer and poet Carolyn Waudby<\/a> co-created, multi-media film Cradle of Fire<\/a> will be launched at an exciting performance event at Kelham Island on Thursday November 7th 2024<\/strong>. The film re-imagines the story of Vulcan, the Roman god of fires, furnaces and volcanoes, who was adopted as an icon for Sheffield’s steel industry and is featured on buildings around the city.<\/p>\n

God of Fire Hammering Out Thunderbolts – artist Sheena Mary Davies<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

Cradle of Fire<\/a> weaves new poetry with original music and sound recordings from composer Kim Cunio and visuals by multi-media artist, film maker and lead artist Diana Scarborough. In addition to writing the film narrative, co-director Carolyn is working with
\ntwo project partners – Sheffield Museums<\/a> and The Land of Iron<\/a>, Cleveland, drawing on archive material such as photographs, artefacts and oral history accounts.<\/p>\n

The film has been made possible thanks to an Arts Council Grant and support from Sheffield Hallam. This not-for-profit, free event will include a performance from The Grenoside Sword Dancers, plus craft ales and food provided by The Millowners Arms. Donations welcome.<\/p>\n

Carolyn Waudby<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\u00a0received an MA in Writing from Sheffield Hallam and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She was key to the creation of a magazine pathway on the journalism degree at SHU. As a journalist she specialises in the arts, culture and travel. Her poetry is published by leading journals and literary magazines. In 2020\u00a0Apus<\/em>, a chapbook of poems on Frida Kahlo, was published by\u00a0The Red Ceilings Press.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
