{"id":13106,"date":"2024-05-20T12:00:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T11:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/?p=13106"},"modified":"2024-06-04T13:42:37","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T12:42:37","slug":"autogena-statens-kunstfond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.ac.uk\/c3riimpact\/autogena-statens-kunstfond\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Lise Autogena has been awarded a national Lifelong Honorary Award by the Statens Kunstfond, the Danish Art Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Professor Lise Autogena has been awarded a national Lifelong Honorary Award by the Statens Kunstfond, the Danish Art Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Danish Art Foundation has a long tradition of giving\u00a0national\u00a0lifetime honour awards to artists who have made a unique contribution to art and culture in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>Lise\u00a0Autogena, Professor of Cross-Disciplinary Art at Hallam,\u00a0was\u00a0awarded the Lifelong Award for Visual Arts, in recognition of her multimedia installations, film and performances.<\/p>\n<p>Her work makes urgent environmental and climate issues visible and brings together art,\u00a0technology\u00a0and science.\u00a0Her work has explored issues\u00a0ranging\u00a0from climate change and complex\u00a0man-made\u00a0systems to the consequences of uranium mining for the local population\u00a0in Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>In their nomination of Lise, Statens\u00a0Kunstfond, said:\u00a0\u201cAutogena&#8217;s\u00a0works reflects a world undergoing change. Ocean currents stop, wild animals perish, populations are on the run. Nature is out of balance, and it now responds with chaos.\u00a0Autogena&#8217;s\u00a0art is important. She creates it out of necessity, and from this position she\u00a0establishes\u00a0a sensuous-aesthetic cognitive space for the individual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough\u00a0Autogena&#8217;s\u00a0work we can understand the powerful forces that cultures and human actions unleash &#8211; and that nature stands up against. There are no quick-fix solutions here; just conditions and consequences that point to us as individuals and the need to change our ways as human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lise\u2019s installation\u00a0<em>HavObservatoriet<\/em>\u00a0(sea observatory), is a public digital artwork in\u00a0Vejle, Denmark.\u00a0The observatory is a circular steel structure, in which the viewer is enveloped by a moving wave on a digital panoramic screen depicting a real-time simulation of ocean waves.<\/p>\n<p><em>Black Shoals<\/em>,\u00a0a data visualisation installation, depicted the global stock markets in the form of a planetarium. It explored\u00a0the changing relationships between capitalism, nature and technology, and\u00a0mirror how\u00a0man-made\u00a0systems have become living organisms that feed on themselves and eventually collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Her video work,\u00a0<em>Kuannersuit\/Kvanefjeld<\/em>, highlights the conflicts in the small community of\u00a0Narsaq\u00a0in Greenland over the issue of uranium mining. It explores the\u00a0difficult decisions\u00a0and trade-offs faced by a culture that\u00a0seeks\u00a0to escape its colonial past and define its own identity.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Lise\u2019s work\u00a0<em>Foghorn Requiem\u00a0<\/em>received a Guinness World Record for the \u2018most ship horns in a piece of music\u2019.\u00a0<em>Foghorn Requiem<\/em>\u00a0was\u00a0a musical piece performed by 75 brass players, a\u00a0foghorn\u00a0and an armada of ships to mark the disappearance\u00a0of the sound of the foghorn from the UK\u2019s coastal landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Roger Bateman, Director of the Creative Industries Institute at Sheffield Hallam University, said:\u00a0\u201cI am thrilled that Professor Lise\u00a0Autogena\u00a0has been recognised with this prestigious lifelong achievement from the Danish Arts Foundation. Lise&#8217;s pioneering work strikes a balance between data science and the visual arts, reflecting on the biggest climate and environmental issues of our time.
