From visiting 10 Downing Street to discuss the role of design in public health to supporting people diagnosed with dementia in Scotland, Hallam\u2019s\u00a0Lab4Living<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is applying research and innovation to real-world issues.<\/p>\n

Over at our Head Post Office building, a new exhibition is showcasing Lab4Living\u2019s projects and achievements. With the exhibition running until\u00a0Saturday 13 April<\/strong>, Professor Paul Chamberlain<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Professor<\/strong>\u00a0Claire Craig<\/strong> (Co-Directors of Lab4Living) tell us some more…<\/p>\n

What can colleagues expect when visiting the exhibition?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A celebration of the impact that Lab4Living continues to make in relation to the University\u2019s\u00a0Transforming Lives strategy<\/a>, not just in Sheffield but nationally and globally. The exhibition offers both a meeting place and a showcase for the world-leading research being undertaken at Hallam. We hope the exhibition will build on our work with learners from across the University while also inspiring the next generation of design researchers.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is funded by Research England\u2019s Expanding Excellence in England (E3) award?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The award supports research units and departments in higher education across the country, helping to expand and increase their activity in areas of potential growth. In recognition of our excellence in design-led research, Lab4Living was one of 13 centres awarded funding in the programme\u2019s first round.<\/p>\n

What impact has the E3 award made?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Along with broadening collaborations across Hallam, the award\u2019s enabled Lab4Living to expand its interdisciplinary approach and project portfolio. The award\u2019s also supported the growth of the team and expanded our public engagement. This has been facilitated by the relocation of the lab to a fit-for-purpose building in the city centre.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And is the move to the city centre already paying off?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Our new base fosters and supports a creative environment for interdisciplinary working. It helps us engage with community groups, business and industry, and supports the University\u2019s civic agenda. A particular focus of the research has been on the role of design in\u00a0reconceptualising the 100-year life<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0future home<\/a>. The team\u2019s also expanded its international network and formed a new\u00a0Design4Health Global Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Can colleagues get involved with the Design4Health Global Network?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Definitely. We\u2019re formally launching the network at this year\u2019s Design4Health Conference, which is being held at Hallam (25-27 June). The event attracts researchers from across the globe and offers a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together and explore potential future collaborations. Further details\u00a0can be found on the Lab4Living website.<\/a><\/p>\n
