We look forward to seeing you!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to enquire about coming along to this online event please contact us <a href=\"mailto:culture-creativity-ri@shu.ac.uk\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">&#8220;In this session we will discuss our newly-published co-edited volume\u00a0<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">The Materiality of the Archive: Creative Practice in Context\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">(Routledge).\u00a0 Through this volume the editors foster collaborative approaches to archives of creative practice, harnessing the potential of materiality as connective tissue across a range of disciplines and practices. Taking a broad view of the archive\u2019s agency, its focus on archives of creative practice emphasises their generative possibilities, foregrounding the fluidity, blurred boundaries and expanded notions of the archive that are characteristic of creative practices and their complex materialities and immaterialities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">In our conversation, we will\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">contextualise ideas of archival materiality including its articulation in the curation of the volume\u2019s contents<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">, which\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">move outwards from archive studies through an interdisciplinary frame in four sections: \u2018In the Archive: Practices and Encounters\u2019<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">;\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">\u2018With the Archive: Energy\u2019<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">; \u2018<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">About the Archive: Technologies\u2019<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">;\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">and \u2018Beyond the Archives: Expanding the Frame\u2019<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Through this sequence the book\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN\">moves outwards from the archive, yet is always held in relation to it, in a \u2018diagram of active forces\u2019 (Yaneva 2020).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Breakell will also reference her own chapter in the volume, which uses the archival\u00a0<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">fonds<\/span><\/i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0as itself an object of material analysis. Lastly, Russell will highlight some of her recent work on the material engagement with archives at the BFI, specifically with the continuity script for\u00a0<\/span><i><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Kes.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Archive Research Community\u00a0<\/strong>(ARC) is a cross-disciplinary group of like-minded researchers, students, and archivists primarily based in the Culture &amp; Creativity Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University. The ARC launched in November 2022 and meets on a monthly basis.
